The Gran Fondo World Championships 2021
The Gran Fondo World Championships 2021 took place between October 5 and October 10 in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The fierce competition of amateur cyclists from all over the world is divided into three segments: individual time trial, team relay, and road race.
The Gran Fondo Time Trial
Matej Lovše was a three-time Time Trial World Champion entering this year's competition.
"The conditions on the road were difficult because of the rain. But I felt good, and I was sure I was going to win until the very end." Said Matej Lovše.

Unfortunately, he had to give up his reign as a champion. "In the end, the Pole Marcin Biablocki was the better man. But I am very happy that after a long time I really enjoyed the time trial, and I feel I was very well prepared."
Nevertheless, as a three-time world champion in this category and now a silver medalist, Matej has proven he truly belongs among the best amateur cyclists in the world.
The Gran Fondo Team Relay
Matej Lovše partnered up with Laura Šimenc, Andrej Žavbi, and Dean Bratuš for the team relay part of the competition.

The team has proven to be extremely effective, and they ended up winning the gold medal.
"We all enjoyed ourselves. There is simply nothing to add. I am truly proud of this world champion title." Said Matej Lovše.
The Gran Fondo Road Race
The final part of the Gran Fondo World Championships was the road race.
The forecast for Sunday, the day of the race, was snow.
“We expected the weather to be bad. I hoped that wasn't the case and the race would take place on dry roads. My hopes didn't come through, as there was a light drizzle for most of the race. For the situation to be even worse, the average temperature was 0ºC and below the freezing point on the mountain.
"The organizing committee initially wanted to shorten the race to just an uphill time trial, but the riders uniformly demanded the race to take place in a normal way. So we ended up doing two laps instead of the planned three. This was a great decision as the race was interesting but challenging. I finished at second place and missed the win only to an ex-pro tour rider, Johnny Hoogerland.
I am very happy with the result despite missing the gold in road race yet again. It seems I will still need to be training to win that gold.” Commented Matej Lovše, always in a good mood.
The Nduranz ambassador Matej Lovše is one of the best amateur cyclists in the world
With his performance at the Gran Fondo World Championships 2021, Matej Lovše now holds ten medals from Amateur World Championships and is likely one of the most if not the most successful amateur cyclists of all time.
We congratulate Matej Lovše for his amazing success, and once again express our pride and joy of having him as an ambassador of the Nduranz brand.
