The recovery drink Regen - Prototype 2 is the next-generation recovery drink designed to work in synergy with Nduranz fuelling products.

We were the first in the world to introduce a maltodextrin and fructose mixture in the ratio of 1:0.8. The combination of these two carbohydrates stimulates optimal replenishment of both muscle and liver glycogen stores. This combination is also friendlier to the digestive tract, which is usually extremely irritated after exercise due to the consumption of large amounts of glucose.

Most recovery drinks contain a large amount of carbohydrates (up to 5:1 carbohydrate to protein ratio). The new Regen contains 50 grams of carbohydrates and 30 grams of whey protein. 

The recovery drink Regen - Prototype 2 does not contain any artificial flavor enhancers, sweeteners, or preservatives.

Regen - Prototype 2 contains the electrolytes required to replenish fluids lost during workouts. The ratio of electrolytes is adjusted to sweat loss so that you give the body exactly what it needs after exercise.

    The Regen - Prototype 2 was designed to stimulate the most efficient post-workout recovery. It has the same carbohydrate composition as all Nduranz products, following the scientifically proven 1:0.8 ratio of a glucose-based carbohydrate source (maltodextrin) and fructose. It also contains electrolytes in ratios matching sweat loss to provide the body exactly what it needs after a workout. Finally, it contains a high-quality protein source, the whey protein isolate, to stimulate protein synthesis.


    1. MUSCLE ADAPTATION

    There is no hiding from the fact that exercise results in some kind of muscle damage depending on the intensity of the workout, its duration, and environmental factors among other things. Thus, it is crucial that after a workout we initiate the recovery process and positive muscle adaptation. This means that structural elements, such as mitochondria, become more capable of utilising oxygen.


    Regen consists of a high-quality whey protein isolate that has been demonstrated to optimally stimulate protein synthesis. In other words, it makes sure that the cell organelles get repaired and some of them built from scratch.

    Whey protein is a complete source of amino acids. Amino acids are building blocks of protein and only when all of them are available can recovery processes take place. The composition of whey is ideal, as it contains plenty of essential amino acids as well as the key amino acid leucine that has been shown to be the prerequisite for an optimal initiation of muscle protein synthesis.

    Scientific evidence has shown that an amount of 30 grams of protein is optimal for the stimulation of protein synthesis, which is why Regen consists of 30 grams of high-quality whey protein.


    2. REPLENISHMENT OF MUSCLE AND LIVER GLYCOGEN

    During exercise we utilise carbohydrates. These carbohydrates can come from an external source, such as a hydration or recovery drink, or from carbohydrate stores within the body. These stores are also known as glycogen stores and are located in the liver and in the muscles.

    It is important to replenish glycogen stores as effectively as possible immediately after training in order to get ready for the next workout session. Carbohydrate intake is also necessary to fuel protein synthesis.

    Scientific research has shown that it is important what type of carbohydrates we consume in the recovery phase. Glucose-based carbohydrates, such as maltodextrin, are optimal for the replenishment of muscle glycogen stores but suboptimal for the replenishment of liver glycogen. Fructose, on the other hand, has been shown to be substantially more effective in replenishing liver glycogen.

    The recovery drink Regen - Prototype 2 contains a blend of maltodextrin and fructose in a 1:0.8 ratio, which is scientifically proven to be the closest to optimal. This ratio is reflected in our fuelling products, which makes our fuelling and recovery products highly compatible.

    There is scientific evidence available showing that 1.2 grams of carbohydrates per kilogram of body weight are required for optimal stimulation of glycogen synthesis. However, when protein is added, the required amount of carbohydrates decreases. As a result, we came up with a simple solution providing 30 grams of protein and 50 grams of carbohydrates to optimally stimulate both the synthesis of glycogen stores in the liver and the synthesis of protein.


    3. REHYDRATION - DRINKING WATER IS NOT ENOUGH

    It is very important to replenish fluids lost during exercise as quickly as possible, as we are always at least slightly dehydrated after a workout. But if we drink only water in the recovery phase, this water is quickly lost via urine because it lacks electrolytes. Research has shown that combining electrolytes, protein, and carbohydrates is optimal for rehydration.

    The recovery drink Regen - Prototype 2 contains electrolytes and minerals in the same ratio we lose in the sweat. The principle behind this is to replace only what is actually lost during training.


    Switching to whey protein isolate

    There was no evidence that whey protein isolate is better than whey protein concentrate regarding recovery and muscle adaptation, and it is generally considered that concentrate has better taste and texture. This is why we had decided to use whey protein concentrate in our regeneration drink Reg-N - Prototype 1.

    Whey protein does contain more fat and lactose than whey protein isolate. The small amount of fat in the concentrate is negligible, but lactose could cause issues to lactose-intolerant users. To prevent this, we had added digestive enzymes, including lactase, to our first formula.

    Feedback gathered from our users revealed many were experiencing digestive issues regardless of the added digestive enzymes, which made us reconsider the formula of our recovery drink moving forward. 

    We were ready to make the switch to a high-quality whey protein isolate, which is far less likely to cause digestive issues in lactose-intolerant users, but not before we were completely satisfied with the taste and texture of our new recovery drink, the Regen - Prototype 2.
